Introducing Guess.js – a toolkit for enabling data-driven user-experiences on the Web

  • In the meantime, I talked to Addy Osmani who turned out to be exploring data-driven approach for predictive pre-fetching of web pages.
  • With Guess.js we want to explore the application of data-analytics driven approach to user experience in: – – You can watch the official announcement of Guess.js by Addy Osmani and Ewa Gasperowicz from Google I/O 2018 below: – – Now lets discuss the first three bullet points from above.
  • In order to use data-driven pre-fetching in your Angular CLI or Create React App project you should first install : – – …and after that add the following two lines of code to your webpack configuration: – – The end result will look like: – – During the build process,…
  • The Future of JavaScript Tooling[7] – – The brilliant static site generator Gatsby[8] uses a smart pre-fetching strategy where it considers all the local links on the current page.
  • If you have similar requirements, you can get this functionality for free with the following config: – – Let me explain the individual properties set to the configuration object literal passed to the call: – – Keep in mind that establishing the mapping between the JavaScript bundles of the application…

The new Angular HttpClient API – Angular In Depth

  • We can do: – Rather than: – However if you’re still interested in the whole Response object you can observe for it: – // HttpClient – this.http.get(‘…’, { observe: ‘response’ });Query parameters – One thing that might not be as intuitive is the way that it handles query parameters.
  • Type checking responses – Thanks to TypeScript Generics you type HTTP method youre calling and the response will get be of that same type: – interface LoginResponse { – accessToken: string; – accessExpiration: { – login: ‘foo’, – password: ‘bar’ – }).
  • As the Request and Response objects are immutablewhich makes it easier to predict and test, we use the clone method to mutate the Response object.
  • In a file upload example it would be like that: – const req = new HttpRequest(‘POST’, ‘upload/file’, file, { – requestProgress: .
  • subscribe(event = { – if (event.type === HttpEventType.UploadProgress) { – console.log(event.total, event.loaded); – } – });Wrapping up – The HttpClient API is awesome.

New Object Methods in ES2017 – DiscoverSDK Blog

  • ES2017 tries to ease the issue by using entriesmethods that return all of the enumerable property [key, value] pairs of an object in an orderly fashion as an array.
  • If the keys dont interest us and we want to only use the values, we can use the values method which does exactly the same thing but only with the values inside the object.
  • If youre not familiar with descriptors, Ill quickly note that they are properties of an object.
  • For instance, assign to an complex object is likely to cause unpredictable behavior and loss of information about the properties.

An Overview of JavaScript Testing in 2018 – welldone-software – Medium

  • If we want to ensure will always return during a test, where you test a different component, for example, you can do this: – – It also works with promises: – – Mocks or Fakes are faking certain modules or behaviors to test different parts of a processes.
  • Browser or browser-like environment can be one of the three: – – We suggest using the same tools for all the test types if possible: – – The same testing structure and syntax (1), assertion functions (2), result reporting, and watching mechanism (4).
  • This is because UI tests takes a longer time, especially if tested on different browsers and usually use an external service to provide you with different devices and browsers (this will be discussed later) and can cost money so you would probably prefer to run it much less than the…
  • Also, as opposed to unit tests, a browser or browser-like environment (7) could help with processes that are dependent on the and when part of the process is to render certain components or interact with them.
  • It is not written specifically for tests and can control a browser for many purposes by exposing a server that simulates user behavior on a browser using an API.
